2200513 - Cannot Determine Software Update Manager for SAP HANA SP Number

Symptom
Error occurs when attempting to start HANA Lifecycle Management.


Environment
SAP HANA Database 1.0.


Reproducing the Issue
  1. Open HANA Studio Administration Console.
  2. Right click on <SID>.
  3. Choose Lifecycle Management, Platform Lifecycle Management, SAP HANA Lifecycle Manager.
  4. The following error appears:
 CannotDetermineSUMsmaller.png
"Cannot determine Software Update Manager for SAP HANA SP number.  Software Update Manager for SAP HANA cannot be started remotely."


Cause
This error occurs due to HANA Lifecyle Manager or SAP Host Agent not being installed correctly.


Resolution

Perform the following steps to re-install HLM:

  • Stop all browsers that have HLM pages open.
  • Stop the Studio
  • Execute /usr/sap/hlm_bootstraps/<SID>/HLM/stop-hlm.sh –f
  • Check that there are no any left HLM processes. e.g. ps -ef | grep hlm
  • Rename the existing directories:
    • /usr/sap/hlm_bootstraps/<SID>/
    • /<hana shared>/<SID>/HLM
  • Go to  https://support.sap.com/swdc and search for SAP HANA Lifecycle Manager
 - download latest HLM and copy to a temporary directory
 - unpack in a temporary directory

Perform the following steps to re-install SAP Host Agent:

  1. As 'root' user execute '/usr/sap/hostctrl/exe/saphostexec - uninstall'
  2. Go to https://support.sap.com/swdc and search for SAP Host Agent
           - download latest Host Agent and copy to the same temporary directory. Do NOT unpack it!
  3. As 'root' user, from the temporary directory execute
                  ./hdbinst --host_agent_package=/<temp directory>/<name of SHA archive>

Re-start SAP HANA Lifecycle Manager in HANA Studio
