Reason and Prerequisites

You want to enable virus protection inside your SAP HANA applications.
You want to use VSI for your own anti-virus checks in your native SAP HANA application.
Prerequisite is SAP HANA SPS09.

Solution

Please remark: You need to log on to your SAP HANA instance with user <SID>adm. You may need to have root access, depending on your anti-virus product.

1. Install a supported VSI product. The list of supported products is available in SAP Note 1494278. Follow the installation guide of your product.
2. Set up a connection between SAP HANA and your local virus scan adapter. You need to know the location and the name of this adapter. If your vendor already uses the standard name (see SAP Note 2037269), you do not have to identify it. If you know your adapter, you can use the command "vsigui" to open a graphical user interface to configure the following entities:
• Group (needed if you want to install more than one anti-virus product)
• Provider (the adapter itself)
• Profile (the link between the applications and the virus scan adapter)
3. Check your installation using the command "vsigui" in TAB Test or run other vsi commands, such as "vsitest". The "vsitest" command performs a test scan, which tries to find the test virus EICAR.
4. Restart your SAP HANA system.
5. As of now, you can use the XSJS class $.security.AntiVirus to perform your own anti-virus scans.
