Symptom
This SAP Note describes the procedure of installation of distributed
SAP HANA when SSH with root user is not allowed in the landscape.
Other Terms
NewDB, In-Memory Database, SAP HANA database, Hybrid Data Base,
installation, SAP HANA lifecycle manager, distributed system, scaleout
system, SSH, SAP HANA unified installer
Reason and Prerequisites
The SAP HANA unified installer can install distributed system in a
single execution. It requests root user and password in the input in
order to do the installations on all hosts via SSH. In some landscapes
SSH with root is not permitted or the root password is not provided to
the user.
Solution
If you don't want to use SSH or root password or you are not allowed
to do so, you can install a single node system and add the other hosts
(nodes) later by using the SAP HANA lifecycle manager. It has web user
interface which uses only the sidadm user and the usage of SSH and root
password can be skipped. The SAP HANA lifecycle manager is installed by
the unified installer. You can find its documentation in the 'SAP HANA
Update and Configuration Guide' on http://help.sap.com/hana_platform/.
