1825053 - Installation of the current HANA client with SWPM

Symptom

You want to install an SAP product based on an SAP HANA database. Instead of the delivered SAP HANA client DVD, the latest HANA client software from the SAP Service Marketplace should be used directly.

Reason and Prerequisites

The version of the SAP HANA client on the DVD is not at the latest level. The SAR archive from SAP Service Marketplace is not recognized by the SWPM as a valid installation medium.

Solution

To install the latest SAP HANA client directly, proceed as follows:

• Load the current client from SAP Service Marketplace from:

           http://service.sap.com/swdc
           Support Packages and Patches -> A-Z Index -> H
           SAP HANA PLATFORM EDITION -> SAP HANA PLATFORM EDIT. 1. 0
           Comprised Software Component Versions -> SAP HANA Client 1. 00
           <PLATTFORM> -> IMDB_CLIENT100_*.SAR

• Unpack the archive, for example to /tmp:

           SAPCAR -R /tmp -xvf IMDB_CLIENT100_51-10009664.SAR
           SAPCAR: processing archive ...
           x SAP_HANA_CLIENT
           x SAP_HANA_CLIENT/hdbinst.exe
           ...

• Meanwhile, all client versions have a file called LABEL.ASC in the directory SAP_HANA_CLIENT.
• Start the SWPM. On the dialog "RDBMS HANA Client", you can now select and enter the path for the folder SAP_HANA_CLIENT as an absolute path, for example: /tmp/SAP_HANA_CLIENT or using the file browser. The SWPM recognizes the software using the file LABEL.ASC and installs the current SAP HANA client.
