Symptom
When you try to backup the HANA database, OOM error below pops up.
You also can see error message below in backup.log file.

Environment
HANA 1.0 all revisions
Cause
There is no enough space in memory for backup process.
Resolution
You can find HANA parameter data_backup_buffer_size under global.ini -> [backup] in the HANA Studio.
This parameter limits the buffer size of backup process.
The default value is 512(MB). You can set it 256 and try backup again.
If reducing the parameter cannot solve the problem, you have to restart the HANA Database.
If you want to find out the root cause that why memory exhausted, please refer to SAP Note 1840954 and 1984422.
You can collect necessary information mentioned in these notes and send to SAP Support for further investigation.
