2134476 - Error "Specified RDBMS is invalid : Oracle " occurs when creating or refreshing Web Intelligence report based on Oracle universe

Symptom
  • Error "Specified RDBMS is invalid : Oracle <version>" occurs when creating or refreshing Web Intelligence report based on Oracle .UNX universe
  • Error "The database SQL generation parameters file could not be loaded(Oracle <version>, Oracle OCI)" occurs when creating or refreshing Web Intelligence report based on Oracle .UNV universe


Environment
  • SAP BusinessObjects Business Intelligence platform (BI) 4.1
  • Web Intelligence (WebI)
  • BI Launch Pad
  • Windows Environment


Reproducing the Issue
Scenario for .UNX universe:
  1. Login to BI Launch Pad and set Preference > Web Intelligence > View as Applet (Java report panel).
  2. Create one WebI report based on .UNX universe which is connection to Oracle database through Oracle OCI.
  3. Select some objects into Result Objects panel and click Run Query button.
    =>The following error is observed: "Specified RDBMS is invalid : Oracle <version> (WIS 00000)"
  4. Try to refresh one existing WebI report which is also based on .UNX universe which is connection to Oracle database through Oracle OCI.
    =>The following error is observed:  "Error when trying to refresh the current report."
    =>After clicking Close button, error "An internal error occurred while calling 'processDPCommandsEx' API. (Error: ERR_WIS_30270)(WIS 30270)" is thrown.
  5. Change Preference > Web Intelligence > View to HTML (HTML report panel).
  6. Repeat step 2 & 3.
    =>The following error is observed: "Specified RDBMS is invalid : Oracle <version> (Error: INF)"
  7. Repeat step 4.
    =>The following error is observed: "Specified RDBMS is invalid : Oracle <version>"
Scenario for .UNV universe:
  1. Login to BI Launch Pad and set Preference > Web Intelligence > View as Applet (Java report panel).
  2. Create one WebI report based on .UNV universe which is connection to Oracle database through Oracle OCI.
  3. Select some objects into Result Objects panel and click Run Query button.
    =>The following error is observed:  "Error when trying to refresh the current report."
    =>After clicking Close button, error "The database SQL generation parameters file could not be loaded(Oracle <version>, Oracle OCI). (WIS 00514)" is thrown.
  4. Try to refresh one existing WebI report which is also based on .UNV universe which is connection to Oracle database through Oracle OCI.
    =>The following error is observed: "Database error: (CS) 'Unable to bind to NetworkLayer object'. (IES 10901)"
  5. Change Preference > Web Intelligence > View to HTML (HTML report panel).
  6. Repeat step 2 & 3.
    =>The following error is observed: "The database SQL generation parameters file could not be loaded(Oracle <version>, Oracle OCI) (Error: INF)"
  7. Repeat step 4.
    =>The following error is observed: "Database error: (CS) 'Unable to bind to NetworkLayer object'. (IES 10901)(Error:INF)"


Cause

The access layer for Oracle database is not installed.
Use cscheck command under "<Install diretory>\SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise XI 4.0\win64_x64\" to confirm:

Resolution
In Control Panel -> Programs and Features, right click on the base product install and select run uninstall/modify. Then, Select Database Access > Oracle to install.
