- SAP HRF 1.0 SP03 with SAP HRF modeling tools: SAP HANA SP09 rev. 93
Solution
Solution Highlights
SAP HANA rules framework (HRF) is a native decision management framework for SAP HANA, which enables developers to easily add intelligent real-time decision making to SAP HANA applications and empowers business users to define and manage decisions in dynamic scenarios.
SAP HRF 1.0 SP03 enhances the business user experience on several dimensions. When designing conditions, the rule builder now supports a natural-spoken language notation (English), which enhances the technical dotted notation that was used until now. Vocabularies now support predefined value lists, which are used by the auto-complete service to suggest the preset values and/or their descriptive equivalents to business users when creating rules. Auto-complete and text coloring in conditions is now also supported in the cells of decision tables. The display speed of the auto-complete suggestion list during the creation of rules has been greatly enhanced.
Important Installation Information:
Minimum Requirements: SAP HRF 1.0 SPS03 supports SAP HANA SP08 and above.
SAP HANA SP09 is required (and generally recommended) to benefit from the lifecycle improvements and integration with the SAP HANA repository. For more details, see the "SAP HANA Rules Framework 1.0 SPS 03 Installation Guide".

New Features in the SAP HRF 1.0 SP03 Release:
- Business User Experience:
- A natural language notation, instead of the technical dotted notation, is now the default syntax in conditions for expressing the relationship of an attribute to data objects. For example: "age of the customer" instead of "customer.age", and "number of all payments of a customer" instead of "number of all customer.payment". This natural language notation is fully represented in the auto-complete suggestion list. The names of data objects in conditions are also pluralized to enhance the natural language notation.
Note: The former dotted notation is still
supported for backward compatibility. To apply the dotted notation
when designing rules in the Rule Builder UI control, manually type in
the dots at the appropriate places within the condition to override the
natural-language auto-complete suggestions.
- Decision tables now have rich-text capabilities, such as auto-complete suggestions and text coloring when designing conditions within table cells.
- Value lists are now supported in the vocabulary, which allows business users to select values from closed/predefined lists in the auto-complete suggestion list and to replace existing values with other values directly from the value list.
- The parser of the rule expression language has been moved to the client side (browser), thus vastly improving overall performance of the auto-complete suggestion service.
- Use of Boolean conditions or aliases in the header of decision tables and as conditions in a rule output is now supported.
- Development Experience:
- Developers can now implement the "alias" sub-control as a standalone view, without having to trigger it from with a rule.
- Within vocabularies, developers can define value lists that are based on data sets in SAP HANA (table or view). The values in the defined lists can be based on any HRF-supported type and an optional string-based description for each corresponding value. A data object attribute can also be based on a value list type.
- SAP HANA rules framework modeling tools:
- The rendering of the rule expression language has been enhanced with syntactical text highlighting.
- Configuration of the rule execution context has been enhanced with scalar, hierarchical, and data object input parameters.
- The vocabulary editor now supports composite association modeling.
- Client-side parser prevents use of REL services from ABAP stack.
- The Vocabulary editor in SAP HANA studio (SAP HANA rules framework tools) prevents users from configuring composite associations smoothly.
- The Vocabulary editor in SAP HANA studio (SAP HANA rules framework tools) prevents users from configuring composite associations smoothly.
- When a rule filter is deleted, the changes are lost and the old filter constraints are maintained.
- When a rule output is named as "outputs", a save operation fails.
- Clicking 'Cancel' in any of the editor dialog boxes does not revert last changes to previous state -- all changes are saved.
- A null pointer exception resulted in the editor when performing a Validate action on an association connector in the editor's Details pane. [FIX: The Validate option was removed from the context menu action in the Details pane of the editor. This action did not have any semantic meaning in SAP HANA rules framework.]
- Input parameters of type 'data object' without keys are incorrectly persisted with keys.
- Isues with text coloring of value list entities in conditions.
- Issues with the auto-complete suggestions in cells of decision tables.
- Rule services based on associations (without a leading data object) may provide incorrect results for rules that use a decision table alias.
- Rules may fail upon activation when they contain conditions that are based on 'exists in' functionality in a 'where' statement.
- Rule services may provide incorrect results if they contain a cyclic association (e.g., object X is associated to object Y which is associated back to object X) in the vocabulary.
- An error may occur during the execution of a rule service that contains a rule which uses a division arithmetic operator and whereby the denominator can potentially generate a value of zero as a runtime result.
