SAP HANA Answers was an optional component and service offered under separate terms of use and privacy statements. SAP HANA Answers was never part of the official SAP HANA Platform license or product.

Solution

General Information
SAP released SAP HANA Answers in controlled availability as part of SAP HANA SPS08, a feature which provides HANA-related information via the SAP HANA Answers website (https://answers.saphana.com) and accessed and delivered directly inside the SAP HANA development tools: SAP HANA Web IDE and SAP HANA Studio.
In addition to HANA Answers delivering pertinent information inside of SAP HANA, SAP Search website (https://search.sap.com) is already a fully-functioning and extremely rich site for providing users comprehensive information related to all SAP products, including SAP HANA.
To simplify and streamline information discovery on SAP products for our customers, including SAP HANA, SAP has decided to provide our customers with one comprehensive information repository via the SAP Search website rather than create and maintain product related information discovery websites.  Subsequently, SAP has decided to discontinue support for SAP HANA Answers.

Integration Points between SAP HANA and SAP HANA Answers included:

1. Integration with SAP HANA studio (controlled at the locally installed client level)
2. Integration with the SAP HANA Web-based Development Workbench (controlled at the SAP HANA Server or Database-specific level). This feature is new with SPS 09.

Below are instructions for disabling the integration points in SAP HANA tools.
1.   Opting out of Installing the SAP HANA studio plugin for SAP HANA Answers (SPS 09 or later)

To opt out of the installation of the SAP HANA Answers Plugin from the HANA studio lifecycle management tool, users may unselect the checkbox corresponding to the optional feature “SAP HANA Answers”. The user can then click the Next button to continue with the installation process.

From the command line installation tool, the SAP HANA Answers feature is enabled with the default selection of “All features”. If a user chooses to not install all of the features, individual features can be selected by listing the chosen feature numbers separated by commas. If a user would like to opt out of the SAP HANA Answers Plugin installation, the number for the “answers” option should be excluded.

Unattended installation also supports the feature parameter - see the help option for the SAP HANA studio command-line installation tool.

2.   Removing the SAP HANA studio plugin for SAP HANA Answers (SPS 09 or later)

The SAP HANA studio plugin for SAP HANA Answers can be uninstalled from the SAP HANA studio “Help” menu option. Select “Help” -> “Installation Details”

Select the item "SAP HANA Answers" and then select the "Uninstall" button.

Follow the guided navigation to complete the removal of the plugin. This requires a restart of SAP HANA studio to take effect.

3.   Removing the SAP HANA studio plugin for SAP HANA Answers (SPS 05 through SPS 08)

To remove the SAP HANA Answers plugin for SAP HANA studio, on versions prior to SPS 09, open SAP HANA studio. From the menu bar select “Help”->”Install New Software…”. Click on the link “What is Already Installed”.

Select the feature “SAP HANA Answers” and click the “Uninstall” button.

Follow the guided navigation to complete the removal of the plugin. This requires a restart of SAP HANA studio to take effect.

4.   Disabling the SAP HANA Web-based Development Workbench Plugin (SPS 09 or later)

The SAP HANA Answers integration with the SAP HANA Web-based Development Workbench is enabled by default.

It can be disabled at the system level and overwritten at a database-specific level for multi-tenant database containers.

To disable: double-click on your system listed in the “Systems” view. Select the “Configuration” tab and expand the tree for “indexserver.ini”. Set the “enabled” parameter to “false”. This setting is found in the “answers” section of the “indexserver.ini” as shown below.

Double-click on the setting to change the value to “false” and to disable the integration.

The change takes effect immediately for any newly opened/refreshed SAP HANA Web-based Development Workbench sessions.

The parameter to disable the SAP HANA Answers integration with the SAP HANA Web-based Development Workbench can be set for each individual database in a multi-tenant configuration.
