Reason and Prerequisites

Since January 2014, all SAP Certified Appliance Hardware for SAP HANA is listed on the official "Certified SAP HANA Hardware" webpages, which include Single Node/Scale-up and Multi Node/Scale-out HANA scenarios. Specifically for large Suite on HANA (SoH) customer environments the above listed certified HANA configurations are extended by additionally certified hardware, which is under controlled availability. This note covers these larger configurations (i.e. beyond 6TB+ of physical memory requirements/uncompressed source data) and SAP certified solutions, but are not yet listed in PAM and not yet included in the above mentioned official webpages.

Solution

SAP Business Suite powered by SAP HANA customers that have the following requirement:

• Larger than 6TB+ physical memory requirement (based on expert SAP sizing) for their SAP HANA database
• Single Node/Scale-up, Suite on HANA scenario (for SoH Scale-out please refer to SAP Note 1950470)

Beyond the SAP HANA hardware configurations that are listed on the Product Availability Matrix (PAM) and the official "Certified SAP HANA Hardware" webpages, there are certain hardware vendors that have certified large Scale-up configurations with SAP, but are not yet listed on PAM due to a controlled availability program that is offered to a select set of customers.
Customers that are interested in such an environment should be approaching their SAP account team, who will then be reaching out to the respective global technology partner managers.
For Ivybridge based configurations:

• Up to 20 Sockets/CPU - 300 cores
• Up to 15 TB of physical memory per single node
• Storage must be 4 x (times) memory

For Haswell based configurations:

• Up to 20 Sockets/CPU - 316 cores
• Up to 15 TB of physical memory per single node
• Storage must be 4 x (times) memory

The following hardware vendors have certified their solution (as descibed) with SAP, based on the Intel Ivybridge and Haswell architecture:

• HP ConvergedSystem 900 for SAP HANA (CS900)
• Status: Currently in GA for up to: 16 Socket and 12 TB Memory
• SGI UV300H for SAP HANA
• Status: Currently in controled availability for up to: 20 Socket and 15 TB Memory

Please note that customers, who want to leverage one of the above mentioned setups have to be accepted in the appropriate controlled availability program, in order for the environment to be supported in production. As soon as the controlled availability programs are successfully completed, the specific hardware solutions of these vendors will then be added to the official PAM/list of supported SAP HANA Hardware configurations.
