Reason and Prerequisites

In order to provide efficient and harmonized lifecycle management procedures (such as installation, update, and technical customization) for your SAP HANA platform and the SAP HANA applications running on top of it, we consolidated available tools to user-centric new tools.
For technical consultants and administrators responsible for SAP HANA platform lifecycle management operations, we now offer hdblcm (acronym for SAP HANA database lifecycle manager), a simple, robust and powerful tool that takes advantage of the same technology as the involved lower level tools (such as hdbinst and hdbupd), thus ensuring maximum consistency and flexibility – benefit from platform procedures spanning all SAP HANA platform components in one run.
In SAP HANA SPS9 the hdblcm tool can be used in the following modes:

• Command line batch or interactive mode (hdblcm)
• Graphical X Window (hdblcmgui)
• Web UI mode, accessible via SAP HANA Studio or standalone browser.

Solution

The following tools are recommended to be used for the scenarios previously covered by SAP HANA lifecycle manager:
For the following scenarios, you should use the SAP HANA database lifecycle manager (hdblcm), located in your SAP HANA system installation directory: <sapmnt>/<SID>/hdblcm

• Rename SAP HANA System
• Configure SAP HANA System Internal Network
• Configure Registration in System Landscape Directory
• Add Additional Host
• Remove Additional Host
• Add Applicational Functional Library
• Add Live Cache
• Add Smart Data Access

For the SAP HANA platform relevant part of the scenario Update Single Support Packages, you should logon to the system and use 'hdblcm' or 'hdblcmgui', located on the SAP HANA installation medium or packed in the SAP HANA Server archive.

For the following scenarios, you can also use the Web user interface of hdblcm at URL https://<hostname>:1129/lmsl/HDBLCM/<SID>/index.html

For the HANA content relevant part of the scenario Update Single Support Packages, please use the tool hdbalm contained in your SAP HANA client(64bit) installation on HANA server or on your local PC.

For the following scenarios, you should logon to the system and use 'hdblcm' or 'hdblcmgui', located on the SAP HANA installation medium or packed in the SAP HANA Server archive:

• Add SAP HANA System
• Remove SAP HANA System

For the following scenarios, you should logon to the system and use Software Provisioning Manager, which you can download from SAP Service Marketplace at http://service.sap.com/sltoolset:

• Add Solution Manager Diagnostics Agent (SMD)
• Remove Solution Manager Diagnostics Agent (SMD)

Since it cannot be used with SAP HANA SPS09 systems anymore, we recommend that you manually uninstall SAP HANA lifecycle manager (HLM) using the resident hdblcm, located at <sapmnt>/<SID>/hdblcm.
