Symptom
You use the database management system (DBMS) HANA and SAP
HANA-optimized DataStore objects (DSOs). In addition, you plan to use
tools such as BDLS that update data in the tables of the DataStore.

Reason and Prerequisites
The following restrictions apply exclusively to SAP HANA-optimized DataStore objects.
Solution
SAP HANA-optimized DataStore objects enable an excellent data
throughput due to the utilization of the latest in-memory database
technologies.
An important basis for the new architecture is the use of in-memory-optimized data structures. This way, only active data is saved to the database for SAP HANA-optimized DataStore objects. The change log is calculated during the access from the active data so that the memory consumption can be significantly reduced.
As a consequence, the updates of the change log or the history that DataStore does not make itself are no longer possible.
When you update the active data of a DataStore, you must take the the following points into account.
Information about the Support Packages
In urgent cases, you can implement the correction instructions as an advance correction.
You must first read SAP Note 875986, which provides information about transaction SNOTE.
To provide information in advance, the SAP Notes mentioned above may already be available before the Support Package is released. In this case, the short text of the SAP Note contains the words "Preliminary version".

When you update the active data of a DataStore, you must take the the following points into account.
- Never change the active data of a DataStore yourself. Only the tools provided by SAP such as BDLS are supported.
- Updating active data has an effect exclusively on the current status. The history saved to the change log is not changed.
- Therefore ensure that before the execution of tools such as the BDLS all delta requests were updated to their data targets. Otherwise, the changes that you made in the data targets using the tools may be reversed after the delta extraction.
- In addition, ensure that after you execute the tools, no requests that you activated before the execution roll back. Otherwise, the changes that you made in the DataStore object using the tools may be reversed.
- If you accidentally reversed changes because you did not adhere to these points, execute the relevant tool again.
