Symptom
Can SAP HANA Studio be used on Citrix XenApp / XenDesktop ?
Other Terms
Citrix, XenApp, XenDesktop, HANA Studio
Reason and Prerequisites
You want to host SAP HANA Studio on Citrix application virtualization products.
Solution
Software prerequisites:
The SAP HANA Studio can be installed on most common Microsoft Windows versions.
Please check the latest Product Availability Matrix (PAM) for the SAP HANA Studio and the Citrix Product Matrix to determine the supported platforms and versions:
Hardware requirements:
For SAP HANA Studio on Citrix XenApp / XenDesktop, the same recommendations like for SAP HANA Studio on a dedicated workstation apply. Please contact your hardware partner for assistance with this question.
Support:
SAP offers support for problems which are caused by the SAP HANA Studio during the installation and operation. In the case of other problems, please contact the producers of the product in question (Microsoft or Citrix).
Controlling the location for configuration, user and data storage:
In multi-users installation, Eclipse and correspondingly the SAP HANA Studio uses by default the roaming user profile directory to write different configuration, user and data storage.
If you want to use a different location, for example to overcome storage limitations, you will need to configure the startup behaviour of the SAP HANA Studio:
Eclipse provides 3 different command line parameters to control the location of configuration, user and data storage (-configuration, -user and -data).
Please refer to http://help.eclipse.org/topic/org.eclipse.platform.doc.isv/reference/misc/runtime-options.html.
There is also a more simple way to redirect all the storage by setting the "user.home" java property. To do this, you can start the SAP HANA Studio by e.g. using the following command:
"C:\Program Files\SAP\hdbstudio\hdbstudio.exe" --launcher.appendVmargs -vmargs -Duser.home=%HOMEDRIVE%%HOMEPATH%\hdbstudio.
Please refer to http://help.eclipse.org/topic/org.eclipse.platform.doc.isv/reference/misc/multi_user_installs.html?cp=2_1_3_7.
More information
Although, it should be possible for individual users to install new Eclipse plugins and to update installed tools, this is not recommended. Instead, SAP HANA Studio updates should be performed centrally by administrators.
