Reason and Prerequisites
In order to provide efficient and harmonized lifecycle management
procedures (such as installation, update, and technical customization)
for your SAP HANA platform and the SAP HANA applications running on top
of it, we are in process to consolidate available tools and transition
corresponding processes completely to user-centric new tools.
For technical consultants and administrators responsible for SAP HANA platform lifecycle management operations, we now offer hdblcm, a simple, robust and powerful tool that takes advantage of the same technology as the involved lower level tools (such as hdbinst and hdbupd), thus ensuring maximum consistency and flexibility – benefit from platform procedures spanning all SAP HANA platform components in one run. In SAP HANA SPS8 the hdblcm tool can be used in the following modes:
For developers and administrators that have to take care for SAP HANA application lifecycle management operations (such as modeling product structures, transporting, installing of SAP HANA applications), SAP has developed a second new tool, called hdbalm, which aims to support the various facets of the lifecycle of applications running on SAP HANA. Corresponding functionalities can be accessed via command line, Web UI, and SAP HANA studio.
In order to enable a smooth and reliable transition to the new tools, SAP has decided to deliver SAP HANA lifecycle manager (HLM) also with SAP HANA SPS8, but with limited functionality and pointing to the new tools.
In command line batch mode, all scenarios (with the exception of “Configure SAP Landscape Transformation (SAP LT) Replication”) are disabled in SAP HANA lifecycle manager (HLM), because the new tools support this mode and should be used instead.
For the Web UI mode, the following scenarios are disabled in SAP HANA lifecycle manager (HLM):
