2039848 - HANA Studio is broken after upgrade to revision 1.0.81

Symptom

You run SAP HANA Studio Revision 1.0.74 or lower with BW Modeling Tools Revision 1.2 or lower insalled atop. After an upgrade of this installation to HANA Studio revsion 1.0.81 the "SAP HANA Administration Console" perspective of the development workbench is rendered unusable. When you start the SAP HANA Studio Tool:

• An error pop-up with title "Multiple problems have occurred" is raised with following content

"Configuring View Migration

Load RDL files into application cache" - if you press the "Details" button you see the error text

"An internal error has occurred.

   com/sap/ndb/studio/bi/navigator/BINavigatorPlugin"

• On the left side where the System navigator view is placed, you see an additional red cross with following error text

"Plug-In com.sap.ndb.studio.navigator was unable to load class com.sap.ndb.studio.navigator.NavigatorView"

Reason and Prerequisites

BW Modeling Tools in version 1.2 are not compatible with HANA Studio 1.0.80 or a higher version. During upgrade they prevent all HANA Studio plug-ins which they depend on from being upgraded to their new versions. Due to un inconsistency in the HANA Studio feature metadata this conflict is not recognized by the upgrade processor which completes the upgrade without any formal errors. In fact this upgrade produces a semantically inconsistent and practiically unusable result.

Solution

The problem is fixed with HANA Studio revision 1.0.82. If you upgrade your HANA Studio to this target revision and you have installed BW Modeling Tools 1.2 the upgrade installer will stop with an appropriate error message. Prior to this HANA Studio target revision we recommend following workarounds:

1. If you plan to use the HANA Studio installer to upgrade your development environment please un-install all BW Modeling Tools features before you start the upgrade
2. If you plan to upgrade your development environment via update sites please make sure that both HANA Studio 1.0.81 (SAP HANA Tools) and BW Modeling Tools 1.3 update sites are registered in your IDE and that they are simultaneously reachable. Then start the upgrade via Eclipse Halp Menu "Check for Updates". 
3. If you have not read this note before you started with the HANA Studio upgrade and you already have a broken development workbench, just do a fresh installation of SAP HANA Studio revision 1.0.81 and install BW Modeling tools 1.3 atop. Your workspace will be automatically retained.
