Symptom
- Unable to launch DeskI and Designer after installing SP4 with Swedish or Polish language packs.
- It can also happen when some specific languages are selected in DeskI/Designer from Tools --> Options --> language.
Environment
SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise XI 3.1 Service Pack 4
Reproducing the Issue
Workflow 1- Installation with language packs
- Install XI 3.1 SP3 client tools selecting Swedish language.
- Verify that you are able to launch DeskI and Designer
- Now, run the upgrade install of SP4 selecting Swedish or Polish language
- Now, DeskI and Designer wont' launch
- Install SP4 client tools selecting English language.
- You should be able to launch DeskI and Designer.
- Open DeskI, navigate to Tools -- > Option.
- Select the Language Button and select Swedish language.
- Verify that things are working fine.
- Close DeskI.
- Now, it would not allow to launch DeskI and Designer.
Cause
The issue has been identified and logged under Problem Report ID ADAPT01595653.
Resolution
The issue has been fixed with the following patches-
- Fixed in FixPack 4.2 and FixPack 5.1 for Polish and Swedish languages.
- Fixed in FixPack 5.3 and Service Pack 6 for Polish, Swedish and Russian languages.
- Scheduled to be fixed in FixPack 5.6 for French (Monaco).
- Open Registry Editor and navigate to the following key-
HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Business Objects/Suite 12.0/default/BusinessObjects/BusObj Configuration/General/Language Settings/Doc - Here you will see the following-
LongName = Polish or Swedish
ShortName= pl or sv - If we change the values to english, it would allow us to launch DeskI and Designer.
Change it as follows-
LongName = English
ShortName= en
