Symptom
- After initially deploying SAP BPA on SAP HANA or after migrating the DB to SAP HANA, the BPA application does not start correctly or the /Redwood scheduler URL is not reachable.
Environment
SAP BPA version 9 by Redwood is supported on all databases supported
by SAP Netweaver AS Java 7.3 and higher >> including SAP HANA.
- SAP Business Process Automation (SAP BPA) by Redwood, Version 9.0.13 or higher.
- Running on: SAP Netweaver AS Java 7.3 and higher
- Running on: SAP HANA releases earlier than Rev 102.02.
Cause
- This HANA fix is not specific to SAP BPA.
- This is a SQL optimizer issue that can lead to an infinite loop within the HANA engine and so the issue can affect other applications also.
Resolution
Please update to SAP HANA Revision 102.02 or higher so that the below mentioned fix is included in your environment:

Fixed an SQL optimizer issue that led to an infinite loop in query plan generation that could not be canceled.
The affected queries were hanging in the following call stack:
"1: ptime::qo_Pred* ptime::qo_VisitorUtil::visit_all_exprs_and_preds_internal
2: ptime::qo_Pred* ptime::qo_VisitorUtil::qo_visit_all_preds
3: ptime::qo_Normalizer::simplify_pred
4: ptime::qo_Normalizer::pull_up_select_subtree".
