Symptom
You experience that your SAP HANA database does not react anymore,
that the CPU load is high and/or severe performance
issues. Additionally, Transparent Huge Pages are activated on your SAP
HANA servers.

Reason and Prerequisites
Activated Transparent Huge Pages are the root cause for severe
issues on SAP HANA servers (up to a complete standstill of the
database).
You can check if Transparent Huge Pages are enabled as follows:
cat /sys/kernel/mm/transparent_hugepage/enabled
[always] madvise never

Solution
Transparent Huge Pages are a feature of SLES 11 SP2 and SP3 and SAP cannot provide a solution for this issue.
Until further notice, SAP recommends strongly to disable Transparent Huge Pages on all HANA servers (see also SAP Note 1954788):
